Your footage is yours.
We keep a copy of your video only while we edit it for you. We never use your videos, your face or your voice to train AI models, ours or anyone else's, and never reuse them outside your account.
What we collect.
Your email (to sign you in). A working copy of each video you edit, picture and sound, and the videos you export. Each project's transcript, captions, text you add and edits. The edit choices described below. If you buy a plan, what you bought and when. When a job fails, the error text. On our website funnel we also collect ad click and browser identifiers, your IP address and browser details, and quiz completion, sign-up, trial and purchase events for advertising measurement, as described below.
Your video stays on your phone.
In the iPhone app, EditScale keeps its own copy of each video you add, inside the app, so deleting it from Photos doesn't break your project. That copy is not part of your iPhone backup, and deleting the app deletes it. You can remove it anytime under the account icon on Home.
Where your video goes to be edited.
Editing happens on our servers. When you tap Edit it, the iPhone app uploads a working copy to our storage (Cloudflare): up to 1080p on Free and Rising and Studio, or up to 1440p on Pro. From a browser, the original file uploads and our server prepares the working copy for your plan. The working copy is transcribed, cut and rendered on Modal's servers. Modal deletes its working files when each job ends.
AI helpers, only if you turn them on.
Before your first upload the app asks, one company at a time, with every switch off until you turn it on. Anthropic's Claude can get your transcript text and any notes you type to teach your editor to write hook ideas, mark retakes, fix caption spelling and understand those notes. For faceless videos and visual hook ranking it can also get still frames from your clips to describe shots and choose hooks. Never the full video or the sound. Anthropic does not train its models on it. Leave it off and nothing goes to Anthropic; your video is still cut. Change it anytime under the account icon on Home.
Who helps us run it.
Cloudflare hosts the app and receives website requests, including your IP address and browser details. Cloudflare R2 stores uploaded video and audio, previews, exports and project files, including transcripts and edits. Supabase handles sign-in and our database: it receives your email and account details, project records, edit choices, AI consent choices and billing records. Modal runs transcription, editing and rendering: it receives the working video and audio, project data, edit settings and job details, including your plan for queue priority. AI data sent to Anthropic, and to ElevenLabs when available, is described above and requires your permission.
Payments and subscriptions.
For iPhone purchases, Apple receives your payment and purchase information. RevenueCat receives your account id and App Store purchase and subscription details to connect your plan to your account. For website purchases, Stripe receives your email, account id, chosen product and payment information. We also send Stripe advertising match data with checkout: a hashed email, IP address, browser details and available ad click and browser identifiers, so we can match a later trial or purchase to the ad that brought you here.
Advertising measurement on our website.
When our website funnel and its ad connections are enabled, we send Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and TikTok events for quiz completion, account creation, trial starts and first website payments to measure which ads lead to sign-ups and sales. Each platform can receive a hashed email and account id when available, your IP address and browser details, event identifiers and times, the page address, and the product and amount for a payment. Meta also receives available Facebook click and browser identifiers; TikTok receives available TikTok click and browser identifiers. Hashing changes the email or account id into a code that these platforms can match to their users; it does not make the data anonymous. We do not send your footage, audio or transcripts to Meta or TikTok. These website advertising connections are separate from your AI helper choices.
Usage counts (PostHog).
When our PostHog key is set, the website and the iPhone app (which shows our website) tell PostHog each time you open a screen. PostHog gets the screen name from a fixed list (any other page counts as "other") and a random id made fresh each time the app loads, not linked to your account or email. It can also get a few event names (sign up, upload, export, pay) with only the plan, status, file format, video length and file size. Like any website request, it carries your IP address; we ask PostHog not to look up your location from it and not to build a profile of you. PostHog never gets your footage, transcripts, email or account id. If the key is not set, nothing goes to PostHog.
Paying for a plan.
We never see or store your card number: Apple or Stripe holds it. We keep your plan, what you bought, when and for how much, so your videos and plan work. For website payments we also keep a code Stripe gives us for your card (not the number), only to catch referral abuse. Cancel an App Store plan in your iPhone's Settings. Cancel a website plan from the account where you bought it.
We learn from choices, not footage.
When you put a cut back or fix a caption word, we log that decision (times, settings, the word you typed) on your account. We use those decisions to make the automatic cut and the presets better. No frames or audio go into it, and it is deleted with your account.
Problem reports.
When you report a problem with an edit, we keep the video's id, the reason, any note you write and the playback moment you picked, if available, with your account. A person reads your report to understand the problem. We delete it when you delete your account.
Downloaded and posted.
Projects shows which videos you downloaded and which you posted, with the dates. If you mark a video posted and paste the link to your post, we keep that link with the video and note it in your edit choices, so we can learn which edits do well. We never open, visit or read the link, and it is deleted with the video or your account.
Faces.
To keep captions and zooms off your face, we note where a face sits in the frame (a box position). We never identify anyone and never store face templates.
How long we keep it.
We delete our working copy of your video, its preview copies and your exports 7 days after your export, or 30 days after upload if you never export; a storage rule removes anything left after 45 days. To export again after that, the app sends the video again from your phone (from a browser, you choose the file again). Videos uploaded before this rule began are kept 30 days from the day it started. Your account, transcripts, captions, edits and edit choices stay until you delete your account, and come back on any phone you sign in on. Cloud storage, a paid option, keeps your footage on our servers until you delete it, and for 30 days after it ends. Modal's working files are deleted when each job ends. Server request logs are kept for a few days. Your video plays and downloads through private links that expire (6 hours for playback, 24 hours for downloads), so nobody can browse to your files.
Failed jobs are free.
If processing or an export fails, it never counts against you.
Delete anytime.
Delete your account in the app: account icon on Home, then Delete account. That removes your account, every copy of your videos on our servers, exports, transcripts, edits and edit choices right away. Payment and payout records are kept, with the account id removed. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it in Settings > your name > Subscriptions. A website subscription is cancelled for you. Deleting the app removes the copies it kept on your phone, but does not delete your account. You can also email us and we will do it for you.
Changes.
If this policy changes, we update this page and its date, and tell you in the app for anything important.
